The advancement of technology in remote sensing and image processing enables the analysis of the suitability of sites for the installation of the hydroelectric power plant. These remote sensing techniques, coupled with the machine learning algorithms, enhance the accuracy of the task.

Wind resource database and visualisation 

Wind power is becoming one of the most important power sources in the power grid. At present, China’s accumulated wind power capacity is 188 GW, and the total installed capacity has leapt to first in the world. While the penetration rate of wind power is increasing, it generates a huge amount of data for recording the operational status of wind turbines, and so it needs to be studied using big data technology.

The solar resource tool from landsat vs ground data project 

We have different types of models to calculate the direct radiation of solar from ground data and the other one is the data of satellite that we can use for solar radiation measurement. In this report we have compared the different tools from ground data and LandSat.

R&D Project 4

Investigate solutions to mitigate risk to animal life due to sea water ingress

Marine life can have a disastrous effect on pumped storage machinery. Specific issues which are identified include reduction in recreational fishing, swimming areas, noise and visual pollution. The ejection of material into the environment, brine discharge and the different methods of disposal used are the main cause of pollution. Reverse osmosis (RO) is the preferred method these days, especially when fossil fuels are getting difficult to afford. RO has positives such as better efficiency (30-50%) when compared with distillation type plants (10-30%).

The modelling pressure on concrete dam walls project 

Concrete dam walls are made up of concrete and steel reinforcements. They face pressure and stresses of different types due to water pressure, weight of dam, waves and ice pressure and many other factors. This creates stability issues in the dam. This report examines all the stress and pressure that concrete dam walls face and devises an algorithm in order to deal with the pressures.

Comparison of Concrete Gravity Dams vs Earth Walls 

Gravity dams are solid concrete structures that maintain their stability against design loads from the geometric shape, mass and strength of the concrete. The purposes of dam construction may include navigation, flood damage reduction, hydroelectric power generation, fish and wildlife enhancement, water quality, water supply, and recreation. The design and evaluation of a concrete gravity dam for earthquake loading must be based on appropriate criteria that reflect both the desired level of safety and the choice of the design and evaluation procedures. In Bangladesh, the entire country is divided into three seismic zones, depending upon the severity of the earthquake intensity.

 Lining Materials for Sea Water Pumped Storage Dams

One of the most important sources of water is groundwater, and it is not impervious to pollution. The main source of pollution is the leakage of polluted streams such as open drains for channels. The purpose of this study is to minimise the contaminant to protect ground water of channel and dams. To investigate the contaminant flow and the efficiency of different materials of lining, MODFLOW is used. This study tells us about the different lining materials such as geomembranes, clay, concrete and bentonite.

 Pumped storage flow rates project

Pump hydro storage system is a fast pace and appropriate response to buffer intermittent fluctuations of renewable energy. The objective of the project is to develop the understanding of pros and cons of a hydro power pumped storage system, and also develops a modelling approach that deals with the energy outputs in relation to flow rates. In spite of all the numerous advantages of this system the contribution of the three main factors; power capacity, generator capacity and the generator ramp rates, are also considered.

Rate of saltwater evaporation model on post reverse-osmosis desalination brine 

Both alt NaCl and water are of great importance. They are used on large scale for variety of industrial and culinary purposes. So if we have saline water that is obtained from sea then it is processed through different stages to obtain pure water and NaCl. The different stages to obtain pure water is post reverse osmosis of desalinated brine and after that dissolved salts are passed through salt evaporation model to obtain NaCl. 

It is a treatment to remove brine from the saline water since saline water contains high concentration of many dissolved salts. Therefore Desalination process is done on it to remove these largely concentrated dissolved salts so that we are left with only high concentration of NaCl in water that is brine.
